I chose this profession after being a Registered Nurse for six years because I was impressed by being able to focus on prevention and repair rather than intervention, as a health care practitioner.
I have been at Trikinetic since 1996 but graduated from the West Coast College of Massage in September 1992. I had the opportunity to work for 5 years in a multidisciplinary complementary medicine clinic with practitioners focused on health promotion, and practicing Massage Therapy alongside a team of traditional regulated practitioners using alternative methods.
My preferred massage techniques are Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial mobilizing, and Cranio-Sacral Therapy. My philosophy is that most healing occurs when the client is out of “stress” mode and their body is allowed to fix itself. Most people find treatments relaxing and even sedating. I try to include treatment to the whole body, if possible.
I am delighted to find my client base beginning to include more geriatric and pediatric clients. They are the least likely to recieve massage therapy, but we find extremely positive results. The elders are so glad to have relief from longstanding problems, and the young can prevent future problems as they are growing.
I have taken courses in myofascial release, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage and Basic BodyBall training. My interest in human anatomy study has prompted me to take two human anatomy disection workshops, and I have attended the two Body Worlds exhibits here in Vancouver.
I encourage patients to come for Massage Therapy every week for acute conditions, and every month for chronic conditions and maintenance.
I have been married since 2003 and have a little house in Burnaby. When I’m not at the clinic, I do gardening, yard and home repairs, and enjoy our dog and two cats. I love my rainbarrels and rolling composter. I play hand-percussion at Shiloh-Sixth Avenue United Chuch, have taken Tabla lessons, and plan to study bass guitar next. I sing tenor, but not in a formalized choir or group. My favourite animal is the crow.
Estelle works at Trikinetic Massage on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 6:00pm.
